July, 2024 – This has been an exciting week! SAIR, in partnership with Heartfelt Tidbits (heartfelttidbits.org), awarded our first Trailblazer Education Scholarship to recent high school graduate Lucy Velasquez. Lucy was selected as our scholarship winner for her ingenuity, creativity and commitment to her passion - costume and fashion design.
The Trailblazer Education Scholarship was established to support first-generation college students and is funded by donations from the Trailblazers Trek walkathon. Many students who live in households without a college graduate do not see college as a viable option. By offering scholarships to students, we hope to create opportunities that come with receiving a college education and help change the trajectory of their lives. This year’s scholarship award totaled $6,385.
Lucy will be attending the University of Cincinnati this Fall, studying fashion design at DAAP, the School of Design Art Architecture & Planning.
